MARY MOORHOUSE
(1797-1815)
Mary Moorhouse was the second born daughter of John Moorhouse (1762-1838)
and Alice and was baptised on the 23rd April 1797 at Broughton Hall Chapel
under the Latin version of her name, which is Maria.

Mary caught typhus fever from her brother-in-law, Henry Bolton,
a cotton manufacturer who caught the disease from an infected sample of cotton
at Carleton. Mary died at Brown Hose Farm on 5th May 1815, aged 18.
She was
the first of the three daughters, of John and Alice Moorhouse, who died in
May 1815. She is buried next to her sisters at All Saints Church. Elslack.
